After being brought before the judge by Delhi Police in connection with the murder of Sagar Rana, wrestler Sushil Kumar and his companion Ajay were sentenced to 14 days in judicial prison on Wednesday in Rohini.
Earlier, the Delhi Police had filed a court petition requesting an extension of Sushil’s 3-day detention. The court also stated that there was no need for Sushil to be held in police custody for another ten days because he had already been in jail for ten days.
Sushil had been escorted to Haridwar by the crime branch earlier on Monday to probe his hideouts and the persons who assisted him when he was absconding. So far, the Delhi Police investigation has revealed that 13 persons were engaged in the suspected murder of Sagar Rana, nine of whom have been apprehended and four of whom are still at large.
While on the run from the cops, Sushil was using the Telegram app and an internet dongle to communicate with his pals via his SIM-less phone, according to Crime Branch.
Since being identified in the murder case of fellow wrestler Sagar Rana earlier this month, Sushil and his partner Ajay Kumar have been on the run. With two Olympic medals, three Commonwealth Games gold medals, one world championship gold medal, one Asian Games bronze medal, and four Asian Championship medals, Sushil Kumar is India’s most decorated wrestler.
More problems seems on the way for Sushil Kumar, as the two-time Olympic medallist is expected to be accused by the Delhi Police with deleting evidence. Sushil allegedly attempted to destroy evidence, including cell phones and video cameras, according to police.
Earlier on Friday, the Delhi Police Crime Branch made its ninth arrest in the Sagar Rana murder case, and the new suspect claims he was one among those who beat up the wrestlers in the parking lot of the Chhatrasal Stadium on the night of May 4.
