On Saturday, Maharashtra reported 67,123 coronavirus cases, the highest single-day increase since the outbreak began. In the last 24 hours, the virus claimed the lives of 419 people in the country’s worst-affected state.
Today, the cumulative number of coronavirus cases in the state has risen to 37,70,707, with 30,61,174 patients having recovered. According to the government announcement, 56,783 people were released in the last 24 hours.
The survival rate in the state is 81.18 percent, with a fatality rate of 1.59 percent.
There are reportedly 6,47,933 active cases in Maharashtra, putting immense strain on the state’s health system.
At the moment, there are 35,72,584 people in home quarantine and 25,623 people in institutional quarantine.
The state registered over 60,000 daily coronavirus cases for the second day in a row. Maharashtra’s Covid number on Friday was 63,729 infections, which was also a new high.
Pune remains Maharashtra’s worst-affected district, with 12,825 coronavirus cases and 30 deaths per day. With 8,811 cases and 51 deaths in a single day, Mumbai is second on the list, followed by Nagpur with 7,484 cases and 34 deaths.
Pune had 11,047 cases and 47 deaths as of Friday. In the last 24 hours, Mumbai had 8,803 cases and 53 deaths, led by Nagpur with 6,395 cases and 23 deaths.
Maharashtra is in dire need of hospital beds and medical supplies, especially life-saving medical oxygen, due to its large caseload. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had asked the centre earlier this month for assistance in resolving the state’s oxygen crisis.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi checked the central government’s efforts to provide medical oxygen to the twelve worst-affected districts, including Maharashtra, on Friday.
