NEW DELHI: On the lines of the direct broadcast of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings, the demand for a direct broadcast of the judicial proceedings in the Supreme Court has now been demanded on matters of constitutional and national importance. A petition filed by senior advocate Indira Jaisingh in this regard was filed in the Supreme Court, which was heard on Thursday in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition on Thursday. Indira Jaysingh has demanded a direct broadcast of the judicial proceedings in the High Court on issues of constitutional and national importance in this petition.

A bench of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud said that the matter will be heard at the appropriate time. In the effort to bring transparency in the Supreme Court last week, the Supreme Court and the tribunals had allowed CCTV video recording with audio in each state.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaisingh presented personally and said that citizens have the right to information and matters of constitutional and national importance can be directly broadcasted. He said that such a system is already in force in Western countries and the directive of the court proceedings, including the International Court of Justice, is available on YouTube.

Indira also said that the apex court may impose restrictions on direct broadcast and videography in those cases, in which it is prone to privacy.
