Union Home and Cooperatives Minister Amit Shah has said that our Constitution gives special focus on law and order.
To maintain this, we all need to work in coordination. Crimes of international nature are coming to the fore in the country, including drug smuggling, he said.
Drugs are ruining our younger generation, he said.
To realize the dream of Prime Minister Modi’s drug free India, eliminate this evil completely with the coordination and cooperation of all concerned agencies and departments. Union Home and Cooperatives Minister Shah was addressing a regional conference on drug trafficking and national security at Gandhi Nagar, Capital of Gujarat.
Union Minister Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, work is being done at a fast pace towards a drug-free India. It is important to protect the country’s younger generation.
He said we all have to fight together against illegal drugs. He said that one lakh 65 thousand kg drugs have been destroyed in the country, which is a big achievement.
All narcotics agencies are being strengthened. Home Minister Shah said that the Central Government is moving ahead against drug abuse with the cooperation of all the states. In the last eight years, 3.33 lakh kg drugs worth Rs 20 thousand crores has been confiscated. He said that district level committees should be constituted in all the states to take action against drugs. The campaign must be taken seriously and figures of action taken should be made available on Nidan portal. Effective investigation should be ensured to break the smuggling network.
Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan took part in the conference virtually. He said that drugs not only hollow out the future generations but are also a threat to national security. Zero tolerance policy has been adopted in the state.
He said massive action is being taken to reduce the supply chain of drugs. A strategy has been devised to break the criminals financially.
A public awareness campaign is being run for drug de-addiction for demand reduction, he said.
For de-addiction among the youth of Madhya Pradesh, work is being done by connecting various social institutions. Extensive programmes have been undertaken to make the public aware.
Chief Minister Chouhan said that arrangements for health check-up in de-addiction centers have been made in the state.
He said youth have registered as Narcotics Volunteers. In the drug de-addiction campaign, swift action is being taken to destroy the drugs.
He said work is being done in coordination with the Center and other states. Effective use of Nidan portal has been ensured. Since last October 2, continuous action is being taken through drug-de-addiction campaigns.
He said we will leave no stone unturned to end the evil of drug addiction. Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Damandiv and Dadar Nagar Haveli besides Madhya Pradesh took part in the conference.
