The first step of voting for the West Bengal and Assam assembly elections in 2021 starts, with over 1.54 crore eligible electors getting the ability to exercise their right to vote. West Bengal will hold elections for 30 seats, while Assam will hold elections for 47 seats in the first phase of assembly elections.
In West Bengal, the first round of voting will determine the fate of 191 candidates, including 21 women. Both Purulia and Jhargram constituencies, as well as those from Bankura, Purba Medinipur, and Paschim Medinipur, will vote in the first round.
In Assam, 264 candidates are running for 47 seats, 42 of which are from 11 districts in Upper Assam and northern Assam, and five from central Assam’s Nagaon district, which goes to polls in the first round.
A blast took place at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in the Joypur area of Bankura district on Friday (March 26), just days before the first phase of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. The explosion at the TMC office wounded over five people, who were admitted to a hospital in Hooghly.
Meanwhile, West Bengal’s assembly elections are set to take place in eight stages. On April 1 (30 seats), April 6 (31 seats), April 10 (44 seats), April 17 (45 seats), April 22 (43 seats), April 26 (36 seats), and April 29 (36 seats), polling will take place in the remaining seven phases (35 seats). The results will be announced on May 2nd.
Elections in Assam will be conducted in three stages. The remaining two elections will be held on April 1 and April 6. In the second round, 39 constituencies in 13 districts will vote, and in the third phase, 41 constituencies in 12 districts will vote.
