Wasim Akram, a former Pakistan pacer, has wished Sachin Tendulkar a speedy recovery from Covid-19 and expressed optimism that he would ‘strike the virus for a six’.
Wasim Akram’s well-wishes follow Tendulkar’s announcement on Twitter that he has been hospitalised “as a matter of abundant precaution under medical advice.”
In his tweet, Akram also remembered Sachin Tendulkar’s courage and aplomb in facing the best bowlers in the world when he was 16 years old. Sachin Tendulkar, for example, faced Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Imran Khan in his debut Test match in Karachi.
The 54-year-old even requested that the Master Blaster send a photo of him celebrating India’s World Cup victory with the doctors and hospital staff ten years ago.
“Even when you were 16, you battled world’s best bowlers with guts and aplomb… so I am sure you will hit Covid-19 for a SIX! Master, get well soon! Would be great if you celebrate India’s World Cup 2011 anniversary with doctors and hospital staff… do send me a pic!” On Friday, Wasim Akram posted on his Twitter account.
On Saturday, Sachin Tendulkar was found to be positive for Covid-19. The cricket legend revealed that he has developed minor symptoms and has been put under home quarantine. Tendulkar made his comeback in the recently concluded Road Safety World Series, which saw several former world cricket greats return to the field. Tendulkar, Subramaniam Badrinath, Irfan Pathan, and Yusuf Pathan, four members of the India Legends team, announced that they had tested positive for Covid-19 just days after the tournament ended.
“Thank you for your wishes and prayers. As a matter of abundant precaution under medical advice, I have been hospitalized. I hope to be back home in a few days. Take care and stay safe everyone. Wishing all Indians & my teammates on the 10th anniversary of our World Cup,” Tendulkar tweeted.
