Sunrisers Hyderabad declared on Saturday that Kane Williamson would take the place of David Warner as captain for the rest of the 2021 Indian Premier League and will make some improvements in their Overseas combination during the next game.
SRH is currently in the last position in the IPL 2021 points table, having won only one of their six games so far. On May 2, they will play Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Notably, Williamson was the team’s captain after Warner’s one-year ball-tampering suspension in 2019. Under the guidance of the New Zealand skipper, SRH advanced to the playoffs and finished fourth in the race.
“Sunrisers Hyderabad would like to announce that Kane Williamson will be taking over the captaincy for tomorrow’s match and for the remainder of IPL 2021.
“The team management has also made the decision that they will be changing their overseas combination for tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals.
“This decision has not come lightly as the management respects the enormous impact David Warner has had for the franchise over a number of years. As we face the remainder of the season we are sure David will continue to help us strive for success both on and off the field,” SRH said in a statement.”
Warner took over the 2015 capital of West Indies all-rounder Darren Sammy and led the team to its only IPL title in 2016.
This season, Warner could not star with the bat. The Hyderabad skipper has more frequently than not been shocked by the feeling that the wickets will be lost. Since it scored two 50-plus points, the scoring opener did not speak up and scored against MS Dhoni’s CSK in its final game.
Warner took responsibility for the team’s failure and that his individual performance and said. “I take full responsibility for the way I batted. I batted slow and hit the fielders. The way Manish batted was exceptional. Kane and Kedhar got us to a respectable total, but at the end of the day, I take full responsibility,” David Warner said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
