As his mother stood helplessly outside a hospital in Visakhapatnam, a one-year-old boy who had contracted Covid-19 died while waiting for a bed.
The accident occurred outside of Visakhapatnam’s King George Hospital.
According to witnesses, the mother tried her hardest to find a bed for her sick son but was unable because the hospital’s beds were all taken.
As her son gasped for air, she continued pleading with the authorities. Finally, he died while searching for a hospital bed inside an ambulance.
The King George Hospital in Andhra Pradesh is the state’s largest government hospital, but it, too, had no spare beds.
This is yet another disaster that calls into question the state government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.
Previously, a man was required to carry his dead mother’s body on a two-wheeler when no ambulance was available to transport her from the hospital to the crematorium.
On Monday, the incident was registered in the Srikakulam district’s Palasa town.
