Virat Kohli, who launched a movement to help the country battle COVID-19, came forward to donate Rs 6.77 lakh to former Indian cricketer KS Sravanthi Naidu for her mother’s care. Sravanthi Naidu’s mother tested positive for coronavirus, prompting ace doubles badminton player Jwala Gutta to tweet in support of the former India all-rounder, who has reportedly spent 16 lakhs on her parents’ medication.
Former BCCI South Zone convenor N Vidya Yadav told Sportstar that Kohli’s “spontaneous gesture” astounded her.
“To be honest, I was taken aback by his spontaneous gesture. What a wonderful act from such a wonderful cricketer “Sportstar quoted Vidya as saying.
She also thanked R Sridhar, India’s fielding coach, for tagging Virat Kohli and Hanuma Vihari in his tweet requesting assistance for the former India all-rounder.
“I am also grateful to R. Sridhar, the Indian fielding coach, who raised the question with Kohli,” she said.
Kohli and his partner, Anushka Sharma, donated more than 11 crores for the country’s Covid relief efforts.
The celebrity duo kicked off the initiative by donating Rs 2 crore and urging others to “come together and support our India.”
After exceeding their fundraising target, Kohli and Anushka shared a video on social media thanking everyone who contributed to the worthy cause.
Kohli would shortly head to the United Kingdom for the World Test Championship final and a five-match Test series against England.
