The stage is set for the World Test Championship final, which will pit Virat Kohli’s Indian team against the World No. 1 Test team, New Zealand, in Southampton on June 18th. Kohli is expected to play an important role with the bat in the crucial match, as he is known for rising to the occasion and putting his best foot forward in big matches.
India advanced to the World Tennis Championship final after stunning comebacks in the Test series in Australia and the home Test series against England. And Virat Kohli would like his team to win the inaugural WTC trophy to cap off the team’s hard work over the last few years.
Kohli hasn’t scored a Test century since November of this year. His most recent Test century came in a Day/Night Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata. However, if he manages to reach the mark in the WTC final, India’s captain will set a new world record.
If Kohli scores a century in the World T20 final, he will break Ricky Ponting’s huge record of captain with the most international hundreds.
Kohli’s 42nd international century would be his 42nd as captain. Ponting and Kohli are currently tied for first place on this list, each having 41 centuries to their names.
Meanwhile, former India cricketer Parthiv Patel believes Virat Kohli will draw inspiration from his performance in the 2018 series in England as he prepares for the WTC final.
“I think probably he will have to give himself a bit of time and try to think what he did in 2018 – where he got a number of hundreds,” Parthiv said on Star Sports’ Game Plan.
“So, probably he is better equipped than he was in 2014, but there will be challenges and there will be challenges of a variety of fast bowlers. The reason being – it is not a one-dimensional fast bowling attack,” he added.
