The Uttarakhand government announced on Friday that noise pollution at religious sites, wedding ceremonies, and by vehicles will be subject to heavy fines.
Following a cabinet meeting held in the secretariat on Friday evening, the state decided to impose heavy fines.
“The state has taken decisions under the Central Government’s Noise Pollution Regulation Control Act, 2000, If a person violates the specified “decibel” for the first time, he/she will be fined Rs 1,000, for the second time, the fine levied will be Rs 2,500 and for the third time, the fine levied will be Rs 5,000,” Subodh Uniyal, State government spokesperson reportedly said.
According to the report, if noise exceeds the specified decibel level for the first time, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be charged, a penalty of Rs 10,000 for the second time, and a penalty of Rs 15,000 for the third time.
Similarly, if a noise pollution case is reported for the first time, a fine of Rs 10,000 will be charged, while a fine of Rs 15,000 will be charged for the second time, and a fine of Rs 20,000 will be charged for the third time.
If necessary, the government will seize noise-making devices.
The fine for industrial activities is Rs 20,000 for the first offence, Rs 30,000 for the second offence, and Rs 40,000 for the third offence.
