In response to criticism over his “ripped jeans” remark, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat issued an apology on Friday.
At the same time, he reiterated his opposition to ripped jeans, saying that while he has no issue with jeans in general, wearing “torn” ones is “not right.”
Mr. Rawat told the media that he had made a statement earlier this week that children today carry an expensive jean home and then cut it with a scissor.
Mr. Rawat stated that he had only discussed the environment at home and that this applies to him as well.
If we instil good values and discipline in children, they will never fail in the future, the CM added, emphasizing that he made the remark during a programme to keep children away from intoxicants and other evils.
Rawat, who describes himself as a man from a rural background, said on Friday that whenever his pant ripped in school, he was afraid his teacher would scold him. We used to cover it with a patch due to discipline and ideals, he said.
Rawat drew criticism earlier this week after saying at an event that children follow weird fashion trends due to a lack of values and believe themselves to be great shots after wearing jeans ripped at the knees. Women, too, are influenced by such patterns.
Mr. Rawat then described the outfit of a woman who sat next to him on a flight. He described her as wearing boots, torn jeans, bangles in her hands, and traveling with two children. He also mentioned that she runs an NGO, participates in society, and has two children, and he wondered what values she would instill in them.
The CM made an inflammatory comment while speaking at a workshop for children dealing with drug abuse in the state. Tirath Singh described the outfit of a woman who sat next to him on a flight in great detail. He said the woman was an NGO worker who was traveling with her children. “You run an NGO, wear ripped-at-the-knees jeans, walk about in society, children are with you, what morals can you teach?” he asked.
his statement caused huge controversy on social when women all across the country started posting their pictures in ripped jeans to make their dislike know on truth Singh Rawat’s Remarks
