The Uttar Pradesh government plans to open more drive-through Covid-19 vaccination centres in 14 cities throughout the state, following the success of the drive-through Covid-19 immunization centres in Noida. The recipients would be able to use the drive-through services for free.
The Department of Family Welfare has asked the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to submit a plan for the expansion of such drive-through centres.
The exemption will be granted only if sufficient parking is available for the vaccinated individual to wait for half an hour inside their car. The person must wait for at least 30 minutes after receiving the dosage. If any adverse effects or pain occur, the medical staff will be able to give prompt aid.
Director General (Family Welfare) Dr Rakesh Dubey, told India Today that the CMO has been instructed to send the proposal for big cities where there is adequate parking. “Currently, we are preparing to start this facility in Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Bareilly, Meerut, Jhansi, Agra, Mathura, Saharanpur, Ayodhya and Ghaziabad. If everything goes well, after the first week of June, the facility of getting vaccinated by sitting in a car can begin in these cities,” he added.
UP state immunization officer Dr. Ajay Ghai said that in order to expand the vaccination drive, new experiments are being done. He said that the state has enough vaccines and from June 1, the age group of 18-44 can get vaccinated in any of the districts.
