The diktat was issued by the panchayat, which met on March 2 in Pipalshah village, Charthawal police station, and warned that anyone who disobeyed it would be disciplined and boycotted.
Group leader and Kisan Sangh president Thakur Puran Singh declared the decision, saying that it has been agreed to ban women from wearing jeans and men from wearing shorts. “We should wear our traditional clothes such as sarees, ‘ghagra’ and ‘salwar-kameez’,” he said.
Those who disobey the order will be fined and expelled from the society, Singh stated, according to PTI.
The panchayat met in Pipalshah village, which is under the jurisdiction of the Charthawal police station. The Panchayat was attended by members of the Kshatriya community from over a dozen villages.
