The Uttar Pradesh police arrested four Rohingyas on Friday, alleging that they were residing illegally in India and were members of a human trafficking group.
The gang members were apprehended in the districts of Meerut, Aligarh, and Bulandshahr, according to the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
The group was allegedly involved in the preparation of counterfeit voter cards, Aadhaar cards, and passports, as well as human trafficking, according to the police.
Hafiz Shafiq alias Shabiullah, Azizur Rahman alias Aziz, Mufizur Rahman alias Mufiz, and Mohammad Ismail have been identified as the suspects, according to police.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards, mobile phones, a Burmese identification card, a fake Aadhaar card, two photocopies of a passport, a laptop, and foreign money were found in their hands.
According to the police statement, the suspects will be brought before the court and placed on prison remand to gather information about their other connections in India.
According to the statement, the gang was also involved in international money exchange through hawala and assisted certain persons in getting jobs in firms and industries using a fictitious Indian identity.
In exchange, the accused used to get a percentage of the salary as commission. It went on to say that people from other nations were unlawfully transported to India and that fraudulent passports were produced for them.
