IPS officer Om Prakash Singh today took charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP).
DGP Public Relations Officer Rahul Gupta said that Singh has taken charge. He has replaced Sulkhan Singh, who retired on December 31.
1983 batch IPS officer Om Prakash Singh, who was a clean image, was earlier the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). He was unable to take charge due to the time taken by him from the center to get him out. DGP’s post in the state was vacant for the last 22 days.
The teachers who have studied at St. Xavier’s College, National Defense College and University of Delhi are M.Phil Degrees as well as an MBA in Disaster Management. He has lived in many important positions in Uttar Pradesh and Central Government in the past.
In 1992-93, while on the rank of Superintendent of Lakhimpur Kheri district, he strictly restrained the terrorist activities. Apart from this, while working on the rank of Senior Superintendent of Lucknow, he played an important role in resolving the longstanding Shia-Sunni dispute regarding religious procession.
As Director General of Disaster Relief Force, Singh did commendable work to deal with the flood of floods in Jammu and Kashmir, the devastating earthquake in Nepal, the Hurricane Hurricane and the urban areas of Chennai. Singh has also got several medals, including gallantry award for outstanding service.
