Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party (SP), met senior leader and Rampur MP Mohammad Azam Khan in a private hospital in Lucknow on Tuesday, alleging that the Uttar Pradesh government treated him unfairly and “played with his health.”
Mr Khan (72), who is being held in Sitapur prison, was taken to a Lucknow hospital on Monday after complaining of shortness of breath.
His oxygen level was discovered to be low during the first check-up, and he was directed to seek treatment at the Medanta Hospital in Lucknow, according to R S Yadav, Jailer, Sitapur District Jail.
The Samajwadi Party MP was taken to the Medanta Hospital in May after being imprisoned on charges of cheating and other offences. He was just released after undergoing COVID-19 therapy.
After coming from Delhi, Akhilesh Yadav proceeded to Medanta hospital to ask about Mr Khan’s condition.
Later, when speaking with reporters, he expressed “complete trust” in the courts, saying that the government had treated Mr Khan unfairly and “played” with his health.
“We will contact physicians to improve (Mr) Khan’s care,” he added.
Medanta Lucknow Medical Director Rakesh Kapoor said, “Azam Khan was admitted to the hospital again at about 3.30 pm on Monday due to breathing problem and weakness. A team of critical care medicine and other doctors are treating him. He is stable now.”
