After a hectic tiresome roadshow in Lucknow on Monday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra then went on to conduct a lengthy 16-hour long meeting with Lucknow party workers that begun 1 pm on Tuesday and wrapped up on Wednesday on 5:30 am.
The workaholic, AICC General Secretary, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra chaired marathon meetings with the Congress workers in Lucknow on Tuesday as the party gears up for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
At her first Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) meeting after taking on the UP General Secretary (East), she held almost a 16-hour-long session with the Congress party workers.
The meetings began at around 1 pm on Tuesday and ended at around 5:30 am on Wednesday. When asked about what was discussed at the meetings, Priyanka told reporters in Lucknow, “I’m learning a lot about the organisation, its structure and the changes that need to be made. I’m getting their (Congress workers) views on how to fight the election, according to them.”
Reportedly, the Congress workers were asked three simple questions during the meeting: Who should be their State President? Do they think the present state president is good? When was the last time they went out on the streets to campaign for the party?
Talking about the meeting, Priyanka later told ANI, “It is nice on seeing the enthusiasm of party workers. They waited for me for long. I thank them. I am learning more about the organisation. How does the organisation work in the region and how are the district and block committees (functioning). I am taking all the details.”
She told reporters, “I am learning a lot about the organisation and how it is structured. I am getting views on how to fight the elections.” The Congress is leaving no stone unturned in wooing the electorates of Uttar Pradesh, which accounts for a maximum number of seats in the Lok Sabha. On Monday, Priyanka along with Jyotiraditya Scindia and brother Rahul Gandhi conducted a fierce road show in Lucknow.
The roadshow was also the Congress’s first mega show of strength in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. According to sources, Priyanka will meet the party workers till February 14 and is scheduled to visit several constituencies in the eastern UP region from February 18 to February 21.
Priyanka, who took charge as the AICC General Secretary for UP (East) the day her husband Robert Vadra was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case, also dismissed questions regarding the probe against her husband and said that she would focus on her work.
Refusing to talk to media in UP, she flew to Jaipur after the roadshow to meet Robert Vadra. Vadra was present in the pink city for a long 8-hours interrogation conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in connection with an alleged land scam in Bikaner amidst heightened security.
Vadra’s mother Maureen Vadra, was also present. The businessman will be questioned today as well. Clearing media about her thoughts regarding it, Priyanka then told sources, “These things will keep going on. I am doing my work.”
Accompanying Robert Vadra in Delhi for the questioning at the ED on Wednesday for the first time. “I stand by my husband,” she told NDTV, adding that she wanted to wanted to send a “clear message” with her appearance.
She was formally ushered into the party fold on January 23 on “a mission” to transform its fortunes ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due in a few months. The decision to induct Priyanka was taken days after Samajwadi Party and BSP decided to contest the Lok Sabha polls jointly and kept the Congress out of the alliance.
After being called “chocolaty” and “very beautiful but no talent” by politicians in the opposition, Priyanka Gandhi has been working like a workhorse with full zeal regardless of personal and political pressure.
Looks like she might come out as the new stalwart of left Indian politics, sooner or later.
