According to data shared by officials, more than 2,000 Uttarakhand Police tested positive for Covid-19 in the second wave, and 93% of them had received both doses of the vaccination before getting the virus.

According to the information released on Tuesday, 2,382 police officers tested positive while on duty between April and May. Two thousand and twenty-four have already recovered, with five fatalities reported.

Two of the five officers who died had comorbidities, according to the statistics. The other three had not been vaccinated.

When asked about the significant number of infections, Nilesh Anand Bharne, DIG (law and order) and Uttarakhand police chief spokesperson, remarked that the severity and casualties are still minimal. Even vaccine producers, according to Bharne, recognise that vaccines do not ensure that a person would not test positive after getting doses.

While several of the police officers who died of Covid-19 were sent to the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar, Bharne claims there is no relationship between their deaths and the holy event.

There were 751 infections in the families of police officers who tested positive, with 64 of them resulting in death.

During the initial phase of the pandemic, 1,982 police officers tested positive for the virus, with eight of them dying.

Since the epidemic began last year, 4,364 police officers have tested positive, with 13 of them dying, according to a study of the data.

During the lockdown, police also discussed details of enforcement efforts and assistance provided to needy individuals through the ‘Mission Hausla’ initiative.

In connection with allegations of bogus pharmaceutical sales, overcharging, and pharmaceutical hoarding, police have filed 32 FIRs and arrested 46 persons. In addition, police have arrested 1.26 lakh persons for not wearing masks and 2.61 lakh for breaking social separation rules.

Police have recovered fines worth Rs 6.13 crore till May 31.
