The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged universities and institutions to submit suggestions to the MHA for the Jeevan Raksha Padak Series of Awards-2021 (MHA).
The UGC has requested that all Vice-Chancellors of all universities and Principals of all colleges/institutions provide character and antecedents verification certificates for each case indicated in a letter to them.
The nominations for the Jeevan Raksha Padak series of awards for the year 2021 must be submitted by September 30, 2021, at the latest.
The Jeevan Raksha Padak award recognizes meritorious acts of humane nature that saved a person’s life in situations such as drowning, accidents, fires, electrocution, landslides, animal attacks, and mine rescue operations, among others.
The award is given to a rescuer who has rescued someone’s life, as the name implies.
The award is divided into three categories:
- Sarvottam Jeevan- awarded to someone who has shown bravery in saving a life in a situation where the rescuer’s life is in serious danger.
- Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak- awarded for bravery and timeliness in saving a life while the rescuer’s life is in great danger.
- Jeevan Raksha Padak- awarded for courage and prompt service in saving a life despite a serious bodily injury to the rescuer.
“The recommendations for this award are considered by the Awards Committee within a period of two years from the date of performance of the gallant act. Therefore, for the year 2021, any recommendation in respect of which the date of performance of the act falls prior to 1st October 2019 should not be forwarded to this Ministry for consideration, “the UGC letter read.
The recommendations should include all important details specified in the format available on the website. A narrative citation (maximum 200 words) clearly highlighting the incident’s sequence-wise details should be provided along.
