Bharatiya Kissan Sangh farmer leader Rakesh Tikait was attacked with a microphone and ink was thrown in a press conference in Bengaluru, Karnataka on Monday.
Three persons detained in the case and investigation is underway, the police said.
On his arrival to the city he held the press conference on issue of a farmers’ leader in Karnatka allegedly demanding money to stop farmers’ protest.
The incident took place at Gandhi Bhavan where Rakesh Tikait was holding a press conference—Raita Chaluvali, Aatmavalokana haagu Spasteekarana Sabha (Farmer’s Movement, Introspection and Clarification Meeting)—organised by the state farmers association and Hasiru Sene.
A man is seen in the video footage of the press meet approaching Tikait, hit with a microphone placed before him, while another man then throws ink on him.
Sooner the supporters of farmer leader’s rush to protect him. further it is seen in the video footage that chairs were thrown around.
In past Tikait has lead the farmers’ movement against the agricultural laws now revoked.
Speaking on the incident, Tikait reportedly accused the state BJP government for not providing security at the venue. He said the press conference as going on where some persons entered the spot and started hitting with the microphone present there. Tikait alleged it is a conspiracy against him and needs to be investigated.
