On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government never understood Covid-19 and that the Centre was to blame for India’s present problem and that a third wave of infections was probably possible.
Gandhi told reporters in a live interview that the “evolving” virus was becoming stronger by the day, and that the central government’s misunderstanding of the virus’s nature was allowing it to develop and spread.
Gandhi further claimed that vaccination was the only “permanent” way to combat the virus, and that India’s poor Covid performance was due to the government’s lack of a vaccination policy.
“The problem is that there is no vaccination strategy. The Prime Minister doesn’t think strategically. He is an event manager, he thinks one event at a time,” Gandhi said.
According to Gandhi, if the present vaccination rate continues, India would confront not only a third wave, but numerous waves of the virus. “You’re creating a burden for the entire planet,” Gandhi remarked, addressing the Centre. What is the reason behind this? Because just 3% of the population is vaccinated, you are allowing 97 percent of the population to be infected with the virus.”
He said the administration had gotten overconfident, focusing on “vaccine diplomacy” and selling crucial Covid vaccines to other countries rather than anticipating a future crisis and need at home.
Gandhi requested the government to divulge the truth about India’s Covid-19 mortality rates, claiming that the country’s existing mortality rate was a deception. He remarked, “Actual death statistics may be upsetting, but we must communicate the truth.”
On Thursday, India registered 1.86 lakh new Covid-19 cases, the lowest daily infection rate in 44 days. The number of active cases has dropped to 23.43 lakh, with more than 2.48 crore individuals completely free of the infection. The death toll has now surpassed 3.18 lakh with 3,660 fresh deaths.
