Mansukh Mandaviya: India's new Health Minister - The Hindu BusinessLine

On Monday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will travel to Kerala to assess the state’s coronavirus disease (Covid-19) situation, which has seen an increase in infections. Mandaviya’s visit to Kerala comes nearly two weeks after he met with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss the state’s rising coronavirus cases. The Union health minister also wrote to Vijayan, urging him to take more proactive measures to control the spread of the virus in order to gain the state government’s cooperation in managing the pandemic.

Covid-19 has caused nearly 3.67 million cases and 18,601 deaths in Kerala so far. On Sunday, 18,582 new cases were reported in the state, with 102 patients succumbing to Covid-19. According to the health department’s bulletin, nearly 21,000 patients were discharged on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,492,367 and the number of active cases to 178,630. On Sunday, a total of 122,970 samples were tested for Covid-19, with a test positivity rate (TPR) of 15.11 percent.

Four districts – Malappuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Ernakulam – had more than 2,000 cases as of Sunday’s infection count. According to the bulletin, over 499,000 patients are under surveillance across several districts in Kerala, with 27,636 in hospitals and the remaining 471,395 in home or institutional quarantine.

Despite the fact that Kerala accounts for more than half of all new cases in India, state health minister Veena George said on Saturday that the pandemic situation is not in crisis mode and that the government is taking all possible measures to stop Covid-19 from spreading. “We’ve asked for more vaccines. Despite the fact that the number of cases is higher than last week, hospital and ICU occupancy is lower,” says the report.

Mansukh Mandaviya will meet Vijayan and George, according to the Union health ministry’s visit plan. People familiar with the situation told news agency ANI on Saturday that he will be accompanied by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and other health ministry officials.

Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, is expected to visit Assam on Tuesday to assess the pandemic situation and hold a review meeting in Guwahati.
