Because of the improvement in the Covid-19 situation, the Telangana administration declared on Saturday that the state’s lockdown will be lifted completely on Sunday.
In the afternoon, at the state cabinet meeting conducted by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office Pragati Bhavan, a decision to this effect was made.
“The decision to lift the lockdown completely was taken after examining reports submitted by the state medical and health department officials, which said the number of Covid-19 cases in the State and the positivity rate had dropped significantly,” the official release said.
The Telangana state of emergency has been in place since May 12, with intermittent relaxations granted by the administration. The state administration stated on June 9 that the lockdown will be lifted for 12 hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for ten days, ending at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
The cabinet also agreed that there would be no night curfew, according to a statement from the chief minister’s office.
The state’s virus propagation was totally under control, according to the cabinet. The cabinet also ordered that all rules imposed during the lockdown be entirely lifted by authorities from all departments.
The cabinet conducted a thorough evaluation of the Covid-19 situation across the country in general and in neighbouring states in particular, according to the official announcement, and concluded that the virus’ transmission was under considerable control.
The government ordered the education department to reopen all educational institutions on July 1 with full readiness in all areas.
According to the official statement, the decision to remove the lockdown fully was made to ensure that ordinary people’s lives and livelihoods were not disrupted. The cabinet urged the public to work with the government to stop the virus from spreading further.
The cabinet made it clear that the people should not let their guard down because the lockdown was lifted. There should be no complacency in fighting against the virus. “The people should strictly follow the Covid-19 restrictions like wearing of a mask, maintenance of social distance and use of sanitizers which are compulsory,” the cabinet said.
