Jagtar Singh Tara, a supporter of Khalistan supporter who killed former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Saturday. Earlier, Tara had claimed that he had no regrets about his actions and that his struggle would continue in the country for the freedom of the Sikhs.
Tara, through his advocate Simranjeet Singh, said in the support on behalf of the supporters, “If there are thousands of innocent people who can be saved by killing one ruthless person, then there is no wrong in it.” The verdict has been pronounced on Tara one day after Sidhu was convicted. Tara had admitted his crime in a letter of six pages written to the court.
On Friday, he requested the court to take action against the war criminal. He said that a Sikh patriot is fighting for the freedom of the Sikh kingdom. On August 31, 1995, the Chief Minister Beant Singh was assassinated outside the Civil Secretariat located in Chandigarh. Dilawar Singh, who worked in Punjab police carried out the incident after becoming a human bomb.
Chief Justice of the Shiromani Gurudwara Management Committee Roop Singh said that after the years of Beant Singh’s assassination, Jagtar Singh Tara, the murderer of Beant Singh has not done the land or property dispute, but actually killed someone brutally but he has been given punishment after 22 years. It is sad for the family and the Sikh community.
