In light of the continuing Covid epidemic, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to cancel the Class 12th examinations. The Tamil Nadu Class 12 Higher Secondary Second year (HSS) examinations were originally planned to take place between May 3 and May 21, but were postponed in April due to a spike in Covid cases in the state. The decision to suspend the Class 12th Tamil Nadu exams comes after the CBSE 12th tests were cancelled by the Centre.
Following the announcement by the Union Government that the CBSE Class 12th board examinations will be cancelled entirely, other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, have opted to cancel the board examinations as well. Many other states, including Delhi, West Bengal, Assam, and Telangana, are yet to announce their results from the Class 12 board examinations.
Students in Tamil Nadu have already been promoted without tests to Class 9, 10, and Plus One. In light of the Coronavirus outbreak, Chief Minister K Palaniswami announced the promotion without examination earlier this year, declaring them “all pass” this academic year.
Taking into account the unusual situation that teachers and students are in, as well as the opinions of parents and experts, students in grades 9, 10, and 11 who will be taking annual/board exams in the 2020-21 school year will be declared as passed without having to write the exams,” the Chief Minister previously stated.
