New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Friday (March 9th), hearing on a petition, passed the conditional recognition (living will), written for euthanasia by the deceased person.
At the same time, the Supreme Court said in its order that every person has the right to die with dignity and no person can be deprived of it. The Supreme Court has issued a guideline for euthanasia, which will remain effective until it becomes law.
Under the leadership of Deepak Mishra, the Constitutional Bench of five judges ruled this historic decision. Actually the Supreme Court was hearing the petition in which a death-seeking person had asked to give recognition to the legacy written for euthanasia.
The Supreme Court said in its guideline that the medical board will decide the last verdict on euthanasia. The board will decide whether the treatment is possible or not. The court said that if the medical board will say that treatment is not possible, then the life support system can be removed. The Supreme Court also said in its guideline that Living Will could be written by a healthy person as well under the supervision of a DM. In the absence of Living Will in a person, relatives of the victim can go to the High Court, but the High Court will also decide on the basis of the medical board.
