The Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday that more than 90 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses are already available, with over 7 lakh additional doses being delivered in the next three days to states and UTs.
So far, the Centre has freed up more than 18 crore vaccine doses (18,00,03,160) for states and UTs.
A total of 17,09,71,429 doses have been consumed, including wastages.
More than 90 lakh COVID vaccine doses (90,31,691) are now available for distribution by the states and UTs. Since they have not reconciled the vaccine they have provided to Armed Forces, states with a negative balance report more intake (including wastage) than vaccine supplied,” the ministry said.
Over the next three days, states and UTs will receive an extra 7,29,610 vaccine doses.
According to the ministry, the Indian government has been funding the national vaccination campaign by offering free COVID-19 vaccinations to states and union territories.
From May 1, 2021, the Liberalized and Accelerated Phase 3 Strategy for COVID-19 Vaccination will be implemented.
Just 50% of the overall Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) cleared vaccine doses of each producer will be procured by the Centre each month, according to the plan.
According to the ministry, the Centre has aided the national vaccination campaign by supplying free Covid vaccinations to states and UTs.
From May 1, the Liberalized and Accelerated phase-3 Covid-19 vaccine strategy will be implemented. According to this policy, only 50% of the overall Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) cleared vaccine doses of any producer would be procured by the Centre each month, according to the ministry.
“The Centre will continue to procure its share of 50% of monthly CDL cleared vaccines and make them available to state governments free of charge, as it had done previously,” it said.
