In a move to woo tribal populace ahead of 2023 assembly elections, the BJP government under leadership of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a conference at Bhopal on Friday a third in series of the earlier two.
The previous two functions were, the one held at Jabalpur in September last to honor tribal leaders who participated in the Independence movement, the other held in November last at Bhopal to observe the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas.
Today Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the conference of forest committees where dividend to Tendu Patta collectors was distributed at Jamboori Ground in Bhopal.
Currently the BJP has 18 tribal MLAs, the party lost many of the reserved seats for tribals in 2018 assembly elections.
After coming to power in March 2020 after a gap of over a year since 2018 assembly elections, the BJP government has taken several path-breaking decisions for welfare of tribals.
The schemes were introduced and executed instantly to enhance the socio-economic conditions of the tribals.
Several initiatives were taken by the government including opening of new medical colleges in tribal dominated districts of Sheopur and Mandla in assistance with the Union government.
The government set up the Madhya Pradesh Medicinal Plant Board for tribals and promotion of forest produce and herbal medicine under Devranya Yojna.
The BJP government has provided financial support to the tribal students to realize their dreams. Under the foreign studies scheme, financial assistance is being provided to meritorious tribal students to study abroad for pursuing higher education.
In last one and half year, over eight students were selected under this scheme who went abroad for higher studies.
Under Akansha Yojna coaching facility for competitive examinations is provided to the students and the scholarship schemes for school and higher education. The Millet Mission of the government aims towards substaintially increase the income of tribal farmers through enhancing millet production. There are other welfare policies too for covering other needs of the tribals.
