Sitaram Yechury, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), lost his eldest son Ashish Yechury to COVID-19 early this morning.
Sitaram Yechury tweeted a few minutes back on the death of his eldest son. He also acknowledged all the doctors, nurses, and others who treated his son. Yechury is presently under quarantine at his home.
Yechury took to Twitter to announce the unfortunate news and thanked all who treated him.
In his Twitter, he wrote, “It is with great sadness that I have to inform that I lost my elder son, Ashish Yechury to COVID-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and who treated him – doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, sanitation workers, and innumerable others who stood by us.”
Ashish Yechury had been contaminated with the Coronavirus and was undergoing treatment at Gurgaon’s Medanta Hospital when he succumbed to Covid-19. He was admitted to Holy Family Hospital two weeks ago and later transferred to Gurgaon.
Ashish was 34 years old, and on June 9th, he would have turned 35. He worked as a senior copy editor for a Delhi-based newspaper. Seema Chisti, Sitaram Yechury’s wife, is also a journalist and editor.
Condoling his demise, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor tweeted, “Devastated by the news @SitaramYechury@seemay. There is no greater loss for a parent to endure. May you find the strength to bear the inexpressible grief of your loss. My heart goes out to you at this painful time.”
