Senior actress Shabana Azmi praised Indian film producer Satyajit Ray and said she preferred to work in all the Ray films. During a session at the Tata Steel Kolkata Sahitya Sammelan in Ray’s film ‘Chess of Khelaar’ (1977), Azmi said, “Every one of his films, whatever he proposes.”
Shabana Azmi, who also acted in the film based on Munshi Premchand’s short story, said that she was overwhelmed by the proposal of Satyajit Ray in the beginning of the film career. She said, “I was overwhelmed that the great Satyajit Ray finally gave me a proposal. I kept the phone and lifted it back and kept it so that I believed that Satyajit was talking to me.”
She said, “At that time I was young, I had entered the film industry and I would say that besides the film, I did not even know the story of the film because Premchand was revered at that time, so I am working in the film. On this, I paid attention only for three days. “
