Pratik Gandhi has a long history of involvement in Gujarati theatre and film. As the hero’s sidekick, he appeared in Bollywood films Mitron (2018) and Loveyatri (2018). But it was in Scam 1992 (2020) that he became famous, and he did so in a big way. The web series, which is based on the life of notorious stock trader Harshad Mehta, received universal acclaim. Pratik Gandhi went from unknown to household name in the blink of an eye. Audiences continued to anticipate his new endeavors with bated breath at the same time.
It has now been revealed that the actor will star in a Gujarati web series named Vitthal Teedi, which will be his next project after Scam 1992 if all goes well. Abhishek Jain, a well-known Gujarati filmmaker who has directed films such as Kevi Rite Jaish (2012), Bey Yaar (2014), and Wrong Side Raju, is the editor (2016). Vitthal Teedi will be launched on OHO Gujarati, an upcoming OTT website co-owned by Abhishek Jain’s company CineMan Productions Ltd.
OHO Gujarati announced its launch with a YouTube promo last month. The 85-second video gave a sneak peek at their new web series. Due to Pratik Gandhi’s casting, Vithal Teedi was put last and was prominently displayed. Vithal Teedi is set in the early 1980s and follows a small-time gambler, according to Abhishek Jain. The web series was recently shot, in January 2021, after the huge success of Scam 1992.
Abhishek Jain and Pratik Gandhi previously collaborated on Bey Yaar and Wrong Side Raju. Aside from Vithal Teedi, Abhishek Jain’s next film is Hum Do Humare Do, which will be released this year. Rajkummar Rao, Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal, and Ratna Pathak Shah star in this Dinesh Vijan production. Abhishek Jain was also set to direct the Hindi remake of the Kannada film Kirik Party (2016), starring Kartik Aaryan and Jacqueline Fernandez, a few years earlier. However, for undisclosed reasons, the film was shelved before it could go into production.
Pratik Gandhi seems to have a full plate. Pratik will star alongside Vitthal Teedi in Atithi Bhooto Bhava, which also stars Jackie Shroff and Sharmin Segal. Hardik Gajjar, who is also directing Pratik in Ravan Leela, is in charge of the film. Pratik will then star alongside Richa Chadha in the Disney+ Hotstar web series Six Suspects, directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. It is currently being filmed and is based on Vikas Swarup’s bestselling novel of the same name. Finally, Pratik Gandhi will soon begin filming Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, a Hindi film starring Taapsee Pannu.
