Aspirants interested in joining the Odisha Police have a great opportunity.
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board has released a notice requesting online applications for 477 Sub-inspector positions.
According to the official notification, the tentative start date for online application is June 22, 2021, with a deadline of July 15, 2021, for submission. Decks have been cleared for the recruitment of transgender individuals in the Odisha Police Department, with the State Police Recruitment Board issuing a notification on Saturday soliciting online applications for recruitment to sub-inspector and constable posts, making transgender candidates eligible.
The most important aspect of the new recruitment campaign is that transgender individuals are eligible to apply, according to the announcement. Odisha would be one of the few states in the country to have transgender people in the state police force if they are hired.
Previously, governments such as Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu have taken the initiative to hire trans individuals in law enforcement and other departments.
The transgender community in Odisha reacted positively to the decision by the state police and expressed gratitude to the state administration.
“The move follows the enactment of the Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Act. The Act prohibits discrimination against a transgender person in matters like education, employment, healthcare services, and other facilities,” said Meera Parida, Chairman of All Odisha Transgender Welfare Association.
The secretary of the All Odisha Transgender Association, Meghna Sahoo, also commended the Odisha government for allowing transgender people to apply for police jobs. “This will sensitize people and go a long way in empowering transgenders and help them return to the mainstream. I urge our community members to apply for the posts in large numbers,” said Meghna.
