In a video that went viral on social media on Wednesday, yoga guru Ramdev challenges the authorities to arrest him. Earlier in the day, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that he charge the Yoga teacher with sedition for challenging the efficacy of allopathic treatments and vaccinations against Covid-19 illness.
Swami Ramdev is heard stating in the 40-second video, “Khair arrest to unka koi baap bhi nahi har sakta Swami Ramdev ko…” ki arrest Swami Ramdev… lekin ek shor macha rahey hain… kabhi kuch chala detey hai….ki Ramdev arrest… Ramdev the thug… Ramdev, Kabi maha thug… Ramdev, Kabi giraftaar… chalate rahe hai…chalane do (‘No one…no one’s father can arrest Swami Ramdev… But they’re creating a racket… Thug (con) Ramdev, arrest Ramdev… They are following trends…allow them to do so)”
The IMA-Yoga guru spat has heated up in recent days, with Ramdev raising 25 concerns about the usefulness of modern medicine and the IMA Uttarakhand branch threatening him with a Rs 1000 crore defamation suit. It all started with a video in which Ramdev was seen calling allopathy a “dumb science” and claiming that hundreds of physicians perished despite receiving the Covid-19 vaccination. Following the complaints of the IMA and the Union Health Minister, he eventually repudiated such remarks.
The Delhi Medical Association filed a complaint against Ramdev as he continued to challenge contemporary medicine, and the IMA’s Uttarakhand chapter has given him a week to remove his views.
“Baba Ramdev is completely ignorant about allopathy. “As witnessed in videos appearing on social media, his baseless opinion, claims, and utterances testify to his negative views on allopathy and physicians who are front-line warriors,” said IMA Uttarakhand secretary Dr. Ajay Khanna.
Swami Shivanand Saraswati of Matri Sadan ashram believes Ramdev has grown arrogant.
“If allopathy has no meaning for him, then why was Acharya Balakrishnan sent to AIIMS Rishikesh for food poisoning two years ago?” “He should first demonstrate that Coronil is far superior to allopathic medicine therapy before pointing fingers at Covid-19 medication and fatalities,” Swami Shivanand Saraswati stated.
Patanjali, Ramdev’s company, manufactures Coronil, an ayurvedic immune enhancer. Ramdev’s close aide and co-founder of the company is Acharya Balakrishna.
