The Rajasthan government announced Mucormycosis, or “black fungus,” infection, which affects COVID-19 patients, an outbreak on Wednesday (May 19).
According to a notification released by Principal Health Secretary Akhil Arora, “Mucormycosis has been notified as an outbreak and a notifiable disease in the state under the Rajasthan Epidemic Act 2020.”
He went on to say that the decision was made to “ensure integrated and organized care of black fungus and coronavirus” in the province.
There are currently 100 black fungus cases in the state, and a special ward has been established at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur to treat these patients.
Mucormycosis, also known as “black fungus,” is present in COVID-19 patients with untreated diabetes or a lengthy stay in the intensive care unit (ICU).
On Tuesday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot convened a review meeting and ordered officials to improve COVID-19 care plans on a war footing.
Gehlot believes that neighborhood and primary health care (PHC) arrangements should be strengthened.
Rajasthan reported 8,398 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 8,79,664. According to state numbers, the death toll in the state reached 7,080 on Tuesday, with 146 lives lost.
