The rainy weather in northwest India will continue today, with a gradual decrease beginning tomorrow. Rain will continue to fall heavily in many parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next 4-5 days, according to the India Meteorological Department.
Over Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh, a well-defined low pressure area has formed. During the next 48 hours, it is expected to move west-northwest across Jharkhand, south Bihar, and southern Uttar Pradesh. During the 29th to 31st of July, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is expected over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, as well as East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh until August 3. On July 29, isolated extremely heavy falls (greater than 20cm) are expected over Gangetic West Bengal; on July 30, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh; and on July 31, East Madhya Pradesh.
At mean sea level, the western end of the monsoon trough is passing through north of its normal position, while the eastern end is passing through near its normal position. At lower levels, there is strong wind convergence from the Arabian Sea to the plains of northwest India.
The current rainy spell, which includes isolated heavy to very heavy falls, is expected to last until today in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Punjab, and Haryana, before subsiding. During the next five days, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls is very likely over Uttar Pradesh. Throughout East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh, widespread rain with heavy to very heavy falls is expected to continue from July 29 to August 2. It is likely to rise from where it is now. Isolated extremely heavy rains are expected over East Rajasthan from July 30 to August 1, as well as West Madhya Pradesh on July 31.
