Adani Port and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) announced on Friday that a joint team of the Customs and Excise Intelligence Directorate (DRI) had seized several containers from foreign vessels at Mundra port that contained undeclared dangerous goods.
The seized dangerous goods container was en route from Karachi in Pakistan to Shanghai in China and the container was not destined for Mundra port.
India’s largest port operator announced in a statement on Friday that although the cargo was classified as non-hazardous, the seized containers had a Class 7 hazard label indicating a radioactive substance.
“On 18 November 2021, a joint Customs and DRI team seized several containers at Mundra Port from a foreign vessel on concerns that they contained undeclared hazardous cargo.”
“… Although the containers were not destined for Mundra Port or any other port in India but were en route from Karachi in Pakistan to Shanghai in China, the government authorities had offloaded them at Mundra Port for further inspection,” Adani Ports, part of the Adani Group conglomerate, said.
Adani Ports said it provided all possible support for this operation and thanked Customs and DRI staff for their prompt and coordinated action.
