Congress leader, Priyanka Gandhi called educational regulatory bodies such as the Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) “downright irresponsible” for conducting exams in the current environment. She took the stand a day after the board told concerned students that appropriate safety arrangements were in place and that all Covid-19 protocols were being followed. These questions arise in the midst of a troubling resurgence of infections around the world.
According to the updated CBSE date sheet, the Class 10 exams will be conducted between May 4 and June 7, and the Class 12 exams will be held between May 4 and June 15. About a lakh students in grades 10 and 12 had previously signed petitions asking the government to postpone or reschedule the tests. Over the last few days, the hashtag “cancelboardexams2021” has been trending on Twitter.
According to a PTI study, the CBSE responded by saying, “To ensure social distance, the number of exam centers has been increased by 40-50 percent. The exam center team is being trained to ensure that all protocols are met.”
The Congress’s General Secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh, who seems to be unhappy with the CBSE’s policy, expressed her displeasure on Twitter today.
“It is downright irresponsible of boards like the CBSE to force students to sit for exams under the prevailing circumstances,” Ms. Gandhi said. “Board exams should either be canceled, rescheduled, or arranged in a manner that does not require the physical presence of children at crowded exam centers.”
After Gandhi’s tweet, many students have come out to support her views and appreciate her stance on the conduction of the upcoming CBSE board exams 2021, which are scheduled to be conducted from May 4 this year.
The Union Health Ministry’s data updated today shows that India had a record single-day surge of 1.31 lakh new Covic-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 1,30,60,542. The number of deaths in the last 24 hours has risen to 780, bringing the total to 1,67,642.
