President Draupadi Murmu honored renowned Baiga painter Jodhaiya Bai Baiga with Padma award for the year 2023 for her distinguished contribution in the field of arts.
The award was given in the first phase of the Civil Investiture Ceremony of Padma Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Jodhaiya Bai Baiga of Umaria district has been popularizing the traditional Baiga tribal culture and philosophy through her paintings for decades.
Baiga has brought recognition and identity to the traditional relief work, culture and philosophy of Baiga Tribe. The illiterate woman who has never seen the face of school drew the attention of the new generation and art masters towards her art. attracting thousands of indigenous as well as foreign visitors to Baiga painting and culture she has turned the village into an Art Tourism Spot.
She has also been teaching more and more Baiga woman artists about how to do the paintings and making them self dependent.
Baiga has been honoured with many awards such as Nari Shakti Puraskar by the President of India in March 2022.
She was honoured by Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for Baiga International Art at Vindhya Maikal Utsav, Umeria 2016.
She participated in National Tribal Art Camp 2020 at Bandhavgarh, MP organised by the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented 3 Padma Vibhushan, 4 Padma Bhushan and 47 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2023 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (March 22, 2023) in the presence of Vice President of India, Prime Minister, Union Minister for Home Affairs and other dignitaries.
