Kieron Pollard scored a 34-ball 87 to help Mumbai Indians complete the second-highest chase in IPL history, chasing down 219 against Chennai Super Kings in Match 27 in Delhi on Saturday.
In an Indian Premier League match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, Kieron Pollard went berserk as Mumbai Indians overcame Chennai Super Kings after a massive 219-run chase.
The right-handed batsman smashed six boundaries and eight maximums in an unbeaten 87-run innings from just 34 deliveries.
Mumbai won by four wickets in the final ball of the season, thanks to Pollard’s herculean effort.
Earlier in the day, after winning the toss and being sent into bat by Rohit Sharma, Chennai Super Kings never let up. They lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early on, but Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis countered with a powerplay attack that included Jasprit Bumrah and Dhawal Kulkarni.
As the Super Kings sped past the 100-run mark in the 11th over, Du Plessis and Moeen Ali added 108 runs in just 61 balls. Until Jasprit Bumrah broke the partnership with a slower pitch, the pair scored 9 sixes and 7 boundaries.
In the centre, Chennai Super Kings faltered, losing du Plessis and Suresh Raina in the same over, with Kieron Pollard taking two wickets in the same over. Pollard almost had another one when he caught Ravindra Jadeja in front of the net. The CSK all-rounder was dismissed, but he appealed the ruling.
CSK were reduced to 116/4 after Mumbai took three fast wickets, with Bumrah dismissing Moeen in the 11th over and Kieron Pollard dismissing du Plessis and Suresh Raina (2) in consecutive balls in the 12th over.
The display then belonged to Rayudu, who added 102 runs for the fifth wicket in a short period of time with Ravindra Jadeja (22 not out). CSK scored 92 runs in the final six overs, with all of Mumbai Indians’ bowlers having a bad day on the ground.
