Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with US Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday, he brought a personal touch to a diplomatic gesture by discussing a range of global concerns, including the pandemic and Pakistan’s involvement in terrorism.
This was the first meet between the two global leaders after Ms. Harris was sworn in as the first person of Indian origin as Vice President of the United States in January.
Following a “fruitful” meeting between the two leaders, the Prime Minister presented Ms. Harris with a five-decade-old official notification that identified her grandpa, PV Gopalan.
Mr. Gopalan had worked for the government in a variety of roles. The notice from 1966 was presented in a handmade wooden frame.
Gifts from Varanasi were the focus of the diplomatic exchange as PM had back-to-back talks with Quad leaders to start off his three-day tour to the United States.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison a “Silver Gulabi Meenakari ship”. “This ship is also distinctly handcrafted and bright, reflecting eternal Kashi’s dynamism,”
