Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, on Thursday to inaugurate development projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore, according to his office. The projects include a 100-bed model maternal and child health (MCH) wing at the Banaras Hindu University’s Institute of Medical Sciences, multi-level parking facilities, highway development projects, and tourism projects.

Prime Minister Modi, announcing his upcoming visit to Varanasi, had tweeted out a day ago with well-wishes for the people who voted for him in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “Tomorrow, 15th July, I will be in Kashi to inaugurate a wide range of development works worth over Rs. 1500 crore,” he wrote. “These works will further ‘Ease of Living’ for the people of Kashi and Poorvanchal.”

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Varanasi around 11 a.m. on Thursday, citing a notification from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He will first dedicate a number of public projects and works, including the MCH wing at BHU, a multi-level parking facility in Godauliya, Ro-Ro vessels for Ganga river tourism development, and a three-lane flyover bridge on the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway. According to the PMO, these projects are worth a total of Rs. 744 crore.

PM Modi will then lay the foundation stones for a number of other public projects and works, including the Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology’s (CIPET) Centre for Skill and Technical Support, 143 rural projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and a mango and vegetable integrated packhouse in Karkhiyanv. The total cost of these projects is estimated to be around Rs 839 crore, according to the PMO.

PM Modi will also inaugurate the International Cooperation and Convention Centre – Rudrakash, which was built with Japanese assistance, at 12:15 p.m. in Varanasi. At around 2 p.m., the Prime Minister will inspect the MCH wing in BHU. According to the PMO, he will also meet with officials and medical professionals to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the region.
