Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting with chief ministers to address the growing number of Covid-19 cases in certain parts of the world, according to news agency PTI, citing official sources. Modi will hold a video conference with chief ministers to address the issues, as he has done on a regular basis since the pandemic began. The virtual interaction will take place at 12.30 pm on Wednesday.
This comes as the nation, which had been reporting about 10,000 daily Covid cases earlier this year, saw its largest single-day spike in 85 days on Monday, with 26,291 cases.
The number of people who have died as a result of the outbreak has grown to 1,58,725 people, with 118 people dead in the last 24 hours.
India reportedly has 2,19,262 active cases, accounting for 1.93 percent of the country’s overall infections. The rate of recovery has fallen to 96.68 percent.
The rise in the country’s daily coronavirus levels is being led by five states, which have registered 78.41% of all new cases, according to the Union Health Ministry. Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu are the states in question.
Maharashtra, the country’s worst-affected district, accounts for more than 63 percent of these incidents, according to the report.
“In eight states a growing trend of daily new cases can be seen. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Haryana are among them.
“The new figures are concentrated in some areas, but if you look at the history of the epidemic, during the first wave as well, some states and districts displayed a spurt earlier than others, but it gradually washed over the whole country,” explained a senior health ministry official in reference to the prime minister’s upcoming meeting.
“It is time to alert states of the value of strategies like maintaining the positivity rate below 5%, active case finding and contact tracing, and ensuring that people who do not need medical treatment stay at home while also ensuring that when they deteriorate, they arrive at hospitals on time,” the official said.
