Famous British physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking passed away at the age of 76.
World renowned physicist Stephen Hawkings took his last breath peacefully at his home in Cambridge in the early hours of Wednesday. His family confirmed this sad news.
This great physicist is known for his work with black holes and relativity, and has written many famous science books including A Brief History of Time.
After he was diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease at the age of 22, Prof. Stephen had a possibility of only a few years to live. He was compelled to be in a wheelchair due to illness and largely unable to speak except through a voice synthesiser. Despite this, Hawking went to Cambridge University for further studies and emerged as a great scientist.
His children, Lucy, Robert and Tim, gave this statement: “We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today. He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.”
They admired his “courage and persistence” and said his “brilliance and humour” inspired people across the world.
“He once said, ‘It would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love.’ We will miss him forever.”
Life of Hawkings
Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England. He was a physicist, a cosmologist and a writer. He was also the director of Research Department of the Center for Theoretical Cosmology of the University of Cambridge. He gave many important principles to the world including Hawking Radiation, Penrose-Hawking Theories, Beckstein-Hawking Formula, Hawking Energy. His work became the basis of many researches. Stephen Hawking has made a significant contribution in understanding the black hole and the big bang theory.
