In a major twist in the mystery of an explosives-filled car found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai home, the owner of the Scorpio SUV has been found dead. The corpse of Mansukh Hiren, was discovered in Kalwa Creek. Hiren allegedly committed suicide by diving into the stream, according to Thane police.
Asked about the case, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and Joint Commissioner Milind Bharambe declined to comment on Mansukh Hiren’s death. “Mansukh Hiren died of suicide, and that’s reported. We’ll update this later, “Senior officials told journalists outside the Commissioner’s office in Mumbai on Friday.
On February 25, the Mumbai Police were informed that Scorpio had been abandoned near Reliance Industries owner Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia home. Upon further investigation, officials seized unassembled gelatin sticks (explosives used in quarries) and a threatening letter to the Ambani family.
The day after its discovery, the police learned that the SUV had been stolen and tracked down its owner who had been living in Vikhroli, another part of the city.
Mansukh Hiren told police that his car broke down on February 16 and he decided to park it on the Mulund-Airoli Link Road. The next day, when he came back to the location, the vehicle was robbed.
The car had a number of plates and a hand-written letter to the president of Reliance and Nita Ambani inside, the city police said. A Mumbai police spokesperson said the SUV number plate matched the safety detail of the Mukesh Ambani car.
