The Oscars 2021, the godfather of film awards, will be celebrated on April 25 (morning of 26 April in India), and anticipation is already building. The Oscars have been chastised in the past for not being multicultural and for ignoring people of colour.
This year’s Oscar nominees, on the other hand, are refreshingly diverse, with musicians from marginalised backgrounds receiving awards and being recognised in the media. If these winners were to win, it would be a watershed moment in the coveted award show’s history.
Like every Other movie buff in the world our excitement level is also sky-high with just two nights before the grandest of movie award shows and we couldn’t help but wonder which films and filmmakers are going to bag the gorgeous golden trophy this year. Nomadland, directed by Chloé Zhao, is a short, personal year-in-the-life story that is also an epic road movie with breathtaking desert scenery and a state-of-the-nation treatise on growing old in the United States today. What else do you or the Academy really want? The majority of the candidates have a shot, but Nomadland has been the favorite since winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival last year.

Chadwick Boseman has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor after his demise. He is the first black actor to be nominated in the category since his death. His aching success as a singer in 1927 with a tortured past in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom varies from buoyant to profoundly painful. An Oscar for his work will be a fantastic homage to the late star.
