From July 7 to 17, the Odisha Congress will organize statewide protests against rising fuel and other essential commodity prices. On July 7, party workers will protest at every block office to protest rising fuel prices.
Similarly, on July 9, party activists will protest in every subdivision of all districts.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has broken the backbone of people. During this pandemic, oil prices have increased manifold which has further affected the common man. Oil prices have also crossed Rs 100 mark in more than 150 cities of the country,” said Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Niranjan Patnaik.
He said that the sharp rise in fuel prices has caused the prices of vital commodities to soar. “The increase in fuel prices is causing people to suffer. To help individuals in their fight against the pandemic, the government must lower the oil price. We also want common people to join us in the protest,” Patnaik added. A signature campaign to oppose the petrol price hike is planned for July 14 in the Capital City.
“On July 17, a similar campaign will be conducted at all petrol pumps.
We will also urge consumers not to buy petrol, diesel, or gas on July 15,” Patnaik said. Odisha Congress has also criticized the Odisha government over an alleged imbalance in Covid-19 deaths in the state.
“The Odisha government has tried to suppress the Covid death counts to safeguard its image, as seen by the inaccurate data. This month, our party will conduct a poll to determine the precise number of Covid victims in the state. We will compile a report with information from all of the Covid victims’ family members and relatives and submit it to the All India Congress Committee (AICC),” he added.
