The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) is waiting for the Mandla district administration to hand over physical possession of 708 hectares land for construction of two nuclear power units of 700 megawatt each at Chutka, in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh.

The land acquisition process is finished but the district administration is yet to hand over it to the NPCIL, an official preferring anonymity said.

The 708 hectares land is spread in four villages of Mandla district including Chutka, Tatighat, Kunda  and Manegaon.

The award amount is already handed over by the NPCIL to the MP Government to pay compensation to the families to be displaced from the villages to be acquired to set up the nuclear power unit.

Due to delay in handing over the physical possession of the land, the NPCIL is unable to take up the work of geo-technical investigation (study of soil structure on which the power units to come up) and other technical formalities require prior commencing the construction work of the nuclear power units, the official said.

The 330 families are still residing in four villages, they are to be shifted in the resettlement and rehabilitation colony that is already constructed in village Gonjhi Ryt by the NPCIL, the official said.

In the resettlement and rehabilitation colony has various facilities developed for the families to be displaced there including schools, haat bazar, health centre, two shopping complex, water supply network with 2 lakh litre over head tank, police chauki and crematorium, the official said.

The allotment of the houses to the families to be displaced is to be done by the district administration in the resettlement and rehabilitation colony as it (district administration) will allocate the houses to the families of four villages, the official added.

Amid all these developments the NPCIL has inked agreement with the Water Resources Department of MP Government in year 2020 for supply of water to the first nuclear power units by 2028 and second unit by 2029, the official said.

Two days back the NTPC Ltd. signed a Supplementary Joint Venture Agreement with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. (NPCIL) in New Delhi for development of Nuclear Power Projects.

Initially, the joint venture company shall develop two Pressurized Heavy-Water Reactor (PHWR) projects, Chutka Madhya Pradesh Atomic Power Project 2×700 MW and Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project 4×700 MW, which were identified as a part of fleet mode nuclear projects.
