In the sensational Nikita Tomar murder case, a fast-track court in Haryana’s Faridabad sentenced two convicts, Tauseef and Rehaan, to life in jail.
Tauseef and Rehaan were found guilty of conspiracy, abduction, and homicide in the case on March 24.
Although Tauseef and Rehaan were found guilty, the third accused, Azharuddin, was acquitted by Faridabad Additional District and Sessions Judge Sartaj Baswana. Azharuddin was arrested on charges of supplying the illicit gun used in the murder.
Nikita Tomar assassination
Nikita Tomar, 21, was shot and killed outside her college in Ballabgarh, Haryana, on Monday, October 26. The incident was captured on video. When the victim walked out of her college after completing a test, the incident happened.
As she attempted to resist, the accused reportedly tried to kidnap her in his car and shot her. Tomar was taken to the hospital, but she died as a result of her injury.
CCTV video led to the apprehension of the two suspects. Accused Tausif reportedly told the police after his arrest that he fired Nikita because she was going to marry someone else. The accused even said that a lawsuit filed by Nikita’s family in 2018 had destroyed his future.
The investigation was later handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which looked at the possibility of a ‘sex jihad’ angle in the case, with sources alleging that Tausif had been pressuring the survivor to marry him and change her religion.
The lawsuit was fast-tracked in November after the dramatic assassination, meaning that it is heard by the court on a daily basis. The decision came after the Faridabad Police Commissioner wrote to the district court, asking that the case be heard in a fast-track court because it is sensitive. Within 11 days, a charge sheet of over 700 pages was filed.
