Due to an increase in Covid-19 incidents, a night curfew has been enforced in major cities in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, and Varanasi, beginning Thursday night.
DK Thakur, the Lucknow Police Commissioner, said on Wednesday, “A night curfew will be enforced in Lucknow from Thursday between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.” “The curfew will remain in effect until April 30,” Thakur said.
In a tweet, the District Magistrate of Lucknow said, “In Lucknow, all government, non-government, or privately run schools, colleges, and educational institutions, as well as coaching institutes, are closed with immediate effect for the management of Covid-19 infection until April 15, 2021.”
“However, examinations/practicals will be administered in full accordance with the COVID-19 procedure in accredited educational establishments,” the magistrate said.
A night curfew has been enforced in Kanpur and Varanasi as a result of an increase in incidents. “A curfew would be imposed in Kanpur from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on April 8, which would last until April 30,” said Kanpur’s District Magistrate.
Similarly, Varanasi’s Commissioner of Police announced, “Varanasi will observe a week-long curfew beginning at 9 p.m. on April 8.”
The second wave of Covid-19 is having a massive impact on the country as it reported more than 115,000 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours on Wednesday. Uttar Pradesh is among the seven states that have shown a rise in daily Covid-19 new cases. Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala contribute more than 80 percent to the new infections reported on Wednesday, as per the Union health ministry.
The country recorded 630 COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours, with an active case count of 8,43,473, according to the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday.
In the last 24 hours, 59,856 people recovered from the outbreak. The total number of deaths has risen to 1,66,177.
